Athyrium filix-femina 'Victoriae' - Lady fern

Morphology/Growth Habits: Athyrium filix-femina, commonly called lady fern, is a deciduous fern that features lacy-cut, light green fronds that grow in a dense circular clump to 2-3' tall which is found in woods, fields and meadows throughout northern North America. A vigorous grower, the 'Victoriae' cultivar grows in clumps to 24" tall and the finely divided fronds have tiny leaves that are in the shape of narrow boomerangs.

Habitat/Best Environments: Like the straight species, it grows best with shade and moist soil, but can tolerate drier soils. It will tolerate more sun if the soil is kept moister. Its bright criss-cross fronds provide a beautiful accent to any garden, especially along borders and amongst wildflowers.
