Morphology/Growth habits: Plumes of white, feathery, firework-like flowers erupt above the compound, toothed foliage in spring. Clump-forming with erect growth. Slow to establish and spreads by seeds and rhizomes, but won’t take over.

Habitat/Best Environments: Found in damp, fertile woodlands and slopes. Prefers moist, fertile soils, making it a great addition to rain gardens. This plant can do well in sunny areas, but only if the soil is consistently moist; otherwise part shade is better. 

Ecological relationships: Host plant for Dusky Azure butterfly. Large flowers attract many pollinators during bloom time. Resistant to deer & rabbits. *Poultices and decoctions of the root used to treat skin sores in Cherokee, Lummi, and Makah medicine.
