A Woody, deciduous, flowering understory tree, may grow 15 to 25 feet tall. Arguably the most beautiful of the native American flowering trees, in spring tiny clusters of yellow-green flowers are surrounded by large white petal-like bracts, giving the appearance of a four pointed star. This gives way to bright red fruit that attracts birds, & a gentle transition of it's dark green leaves to red hue as well.
Prefers moist, organically rich, acidic soils in part shade. Benefits from a 2-4” mulch which will help keep roots cool and moist in summer
