Morphology/Growth Habits: This sedge grows in clumps and thrives in wetter soils, making it a great option for a rain garden. Narrow, rigid stems with small flowers that bloom in late spring/early summer. While it does have these flowers, it's grown mainly for its foliage. Arrangement of its leaves hold resemblance to palm fronds, hence its common name. Spreads by rhizomes and self-seeds. Species epithet is named after the Muskingum river in Ohio, one of the areas it occurs naturally.

Habitat/Best Environments: Can be grown in containers as long as it has consistent moisture. Thrives in wetter soils and partial sun. May flop over if grown in full shade. Ecological relationships: Foliage is used for birds’ nests. Host for Satyr butterfly larvae.
