Clethra alnifolia - Sweet pepperbush
Great planted by a patio because of its late summer fragrant flowers and its compact habit makes it a good shrub for smaller yards.
An easy to grow deciduous shrub with a mid to late summer bloom of fragrant flowers which is unique in its ability to bloom in shady locations and particularly suits woodland/wet areas. The white flowers are followed by brown seed capsules and the leaves turn yellow/golden in the fall.
"Use it in mixed borders, mass plantings, rain gardens or as a tapestry hedge". Great Natives for Tough Places, BBG
